Kitesurfing in the Philippines - The Private Island Kitesurf - Camp in Coron

The Philippines has been amongst the top kiteboarding destinations for a while, of course not without reason. Steady trade winds, warm temperature all year round, beautiful beaches and tropical nature make up for the long hours of travel most kiters have to endure coming from Europe or the Americas. The Calamianes Islands, commonly known just as Coron, at the Northern tip of Palawan, are one of the most beautiful spots and a known tourist destination. Travelers come here mainly for wreck-diving or island hopping, but recently kiteboarding has taken off here as well.

250K KITEBOARDING

250k Kiteboarding has been doing tours to the best kitesurf spots in the Coron area for several years. Now they have built a native-style eco kitesurf camp on a picture perfect private island, right in the middle of the best area for kiting in Coron. From there they do day tours to all the different spots out there every day, downwinders from island to island or freestyle clinics at one of the flat water spots.

KITESURF SETUP

The wind is usually between 15 and 30 knots in the season, which goes from November to March. There are some perfect flat water spots out there; the water between the islands is choppy. The air and the water are warm, so it is recommended to cover up from the sun a bit when riding, as there is usually barely a cloud in the sky during kiteboarding season.

NO WIND DAYS

In the rare event of no wind, there’s hardly a better place in this part of the world to snorkel and/or dive. Plus, the cinematic scenery of Northern Palawan is awe-inspiring. The guests have the option to be brought to a dive center and check out one of the many wrecks in the area, go island hopping, snorkeling, hiking or just relax on the pristine white beach and enjoy having an island for themselves.

HOW TO GET THERE

Considering the remote location it is pretty easy to access. Just take a domestic flight from Manila to Coron (Busuanga), and ride the airport shuttle from the airport to Coron town (30 minutes). 250k Kiteboarding will pick you up from Coron pier with their boat. The ride to the island takes 1 to 2 hours depending on the weather, and is an experience on its own. You will glide over crystal-clear turquoise water, coral reef teeming with colorful fish and past majestic limestone cliffs spotted with white beaches.
