Markovic and Desgranges Claim Gold in Imst

The IFSC Lead World Cup Series 2015 stopped in Imst, Austria on July 31 – August 1. The spectacular sheltered outdoor climbing structure saw the victories of the Slovenia's Mina Markovic and the French climber Romain Desgranges. It was the 12th time that an IFSC Climbing World Cup took place in Imst, and the venue lived up to its promise of long and tricky routes that pushed the athletes to their limits.

The route setters gave our athletes a true challenge this week: long, difficult routes with little rest and many awkward passages. None of the competitors were able to top the tough routes, making the competition all the more suspenseful!

The competition was crowned by another long and impressive run from the Slovenian climber Mina Markovic. Even if Mina run out of time, she achieved to climb higher than the other athletes. From Slovenia too, the only 16 years old climber Janja Garnbret took the second place. An awesome performance for her second participation to an IFSC World Cup. Supported by her public, Jessica Pilz came in third place like last year, here at Imst.

On the men's side, the route was not so easy at all. But Romain Desgranges found the way and the strength to win his first gold medal. Very close to him, Jakob Schubert took silver with 57 (vs 57+ for Romain), and Slovenian's Domen Skofic claimed bronze with a score of 51+.

These new podiums changed a bit the 2015 Provisional Rankings. After 3 over 7 IFSC World Cups completed, if Gautier Supper keeps the head, Romain Desgranges jumps to the second place ahead of Jakob Schubert and Adam Ondra. The women's 2015 Provisional Rankings saw Mina Markovic strengthening her first place, as Jessica Pilz the second place. Even if Jain Kim missed the finals, she keeps the 3rd place, ahead of Anak Verhoeven.

Next stop: Munich, Germany

Nearly two months after the last IFSC Bouldering World Cup in Haiyang, China, the IFSC Bouldering World Cup Series 2015 will wrap up in Munich on August 14-15. The venue is well known for its phenomenal atmosphere, and the Bouldering season’s grand finale is shaping up to be both festive and full of fearsome competition!
