Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin, USA to Host 2015 World Ice and Snow Sailing Championship

Just an hour from Milwaukee, Madison and Green Bay, and located at the base of one of the country's largest inland lakes, Fond du Lac is the perfect location for a fantastic venue for windsurfing or snowmobiling that makes Lake Winnebago for an all-season playground. No wonder the ice of Lake Winnebago has been selected as the site of the 2015 WISSA World Ice and Snow Sailing Championship, February 9 to 14, 2015.

This year’s Hosts; the Winnebago Association of Kiteboarders (WAK), Wind Power Windsurfing and Kiting Center and the Fond du Lac Area Convention and Visitors Bureau (FACVB) will team up to deliver high quality amenities, ideal conditions, top notch facilities and the community’s spirit of competition.

“The World Ice and Snow Sailing Association has a history that goes back to 1980,” said William Tuthill, President of WISSA. “The WISSA 2015 will be the 35th Annual Championship and is the longest running international racing venue in the history of windsurfing, hand held sails and kites.”

Past participants in this world championship have come from Russia, Latvia, Sweden, Finland, Canada and the U.S, along with 11 other countries.

Ice and snow sailing enthusiasts will compete in three classes - Sled, Kite and Wings.  During the day thrilling races will take place on the ice and numerous sponsors will have their booths open to demonstrate equipment and sell food and refreshments to visitors. WISSA competitors will also delight in the festival-like atmosphere of this year’s other events in Fond du Lac such as the 26th Annual Sturgeon Stampede, taking place from Thursday through Sunday, February 12-15, 2015. Events include; one and three day wind and kite surfing Participation, a “Big Air” competition, a massive bonfire on ice, an ice bar, entertainment and closing fireworks. Don't miss it.
