Vans Pool Party 2014 - New Generation Takes Over

Popular annual Vans Pool Party event held on May 16th, 2014 was another great weekend full of the best pool skateboarding that can be seen on the planet. This year saw a new competition format where 8 bests riders from Legends, Masters and Pros classes met in each of its own finals. While previous years belonged to old stagers, it became apparent their reign is over; young kids are taking over. Especially, the fifteen years old Tristan Rennie killed it and impressed many with his smooth style. But everybody skateded super-good. Even Eddie Elguera, a legendary skater and 2-time world champion showed up. Big surprise as we don't see this guy often shredding copings these days. And who got through the finals this year? Read on to find out.

A new saga in Combi pool history unfolded at the 10th Annual Vans Pool Party as a remarkable crop of young up-and-comers earned their ranks on the Pool Party podium. Just when you think that you’ve seen it all…  It all changes. What was going to happen? Bucky Lasek was out as he’d be racing cars. That definitely left a spot open as he rarely is absent from the victory podium. Would Pedro Barros – with his powerful style and speed maintain a death grip on the top spot? Those were the questions hanging in the air before the competition. Would young usurpers overrun the entire bastion of greatness?

The man - Eddie "El Gato" Elguera

They did indeed. Fifteen-year-old Tristan Rennie claimed first place, winning his first-ever Pro Pool Party title while standing alongside fellow young stars Josh Rodriguez, 14, and Cory Juneau, 14. Rising from the field after winning first place in the Qualifiers, Master's division champion Brazilian pro Bruno Passos dominated the final, joining Brian Patch and Darren Navarette in the top three. The biggest surprise of the event was favourite Pedro Barros not making it into the final runs. He skated impossibly good as always but due to several falls his score kept low.

Pedro Barros as we know him - going big

The new Legends division energized the Finals rounds as Chris Miller, seven-time Pool Party Masters champion and no stranger to the iconic Vans Combi bowl, earned the inaugural Legends title, settling a close race between Pool Party greats. Miller joins crowd favorite Jeff Grosso, who made a notable comeback to the top, edging out past winner Christian Hosoi for second place.
