Breckenridge - Home of an Award-winning Terrain Parks and a 22' Superpipe

Vail Resorts, established in the mid-1950s by a pair of visionary skiers, runs today several ski resorts across the US. The story began when Pete Seibert, a professional skier bivouacked on a mountain in Colorado and identified it as an ideal ski mountain. With an intention to open a ski resort like no other, together with Earl Eaton, they bought a ranch at the base of the mountain, further surveying land that would eventually become known as Vail Mountain. Today, Vail Resorts operates four resorts in Colorado: Vail, Beaver Creek, Keystone and Breckenridge. Let's have a look at terrain park of the later. The Breckenridge park crew has combined over 50 years of park experience, including build for events like Dew Tour and X-Games. They’ve worked all over the country, and abroad, including in New Zealand. They’ve been a part of several magazine cover photo shoots and are annual invitees to Snowboarder magazine’s SuperPark event. Check it out.

Breckenridge:

With five huge peaks, 2,908 acres (1,176 hectares), four terrain parks, a 22ft Superpipe (6.7 meters), 11 bowls, the highest chairlift in North America, family-friendly terrain and a world-class ski school, all situated above an authentic, hip mountain town with awe-inspiring views, there are good reasons why “Breck” is one of the most popular ski resorts in the Western Hemisphere.

The resort was one of the first to embrace snowboarding, and to host one of the initial major snowboard competitions in the industry, The World Snowboarding Championships, or “The World’s,” in 1986. Breck solidified its place as the very pinnacle of freestyle snowboarding and skiing with the addition of an Olympic-sized 22-foot superpipe in 2009 (6.7 meters), which anchors the resort’s award-winning Freeway Terrain Park on Peak 8. Breckenridge was also the first-ever resort to have a permanent halfpipe.

Backcountry:

Last season, Breckenridge Ski Resort added over 540 acres (218 hectares) to its famous landscape via the Peak 6 are just north of Peak 7.  Peak 6 includes 400 acres (161 hectares) of lift-served terrain and 143 acres (58 hectares) of hike-to terrain, representing a 23 percent increase in resort’s skiable acres.  This is one of the most notable ski area expansions in the past decade, and features high-alpine, intermediate bowl skiing – a rare find in North America.  If there is enough powder, this place is like heaven.
