LAAX - Home to the Largest Halfpipe in the World

Europe's leading freestyle destination, LAAX, located in the Swiss canton of Graubünden can't be missed. Snowboard pioneers shredded local pistes already in the mid-80s, making it one of the top freestyle destinations outside the US continent. Freestyle hearts beat faster 2,228 meters up on Crap Sogn Gion: 90 obstacles await them in perfectly maintained four parks. But what everybody has been waiting for is the opening of the largest permanently operated halfpipe in the world. With this new halfpipe totaling 200 meters in length and 6.90 meters in height, LAAX is all set to kick off the winter season in style.

LAAX is soon to become the proud location of the world’s largest permanently operated halfpipe. It will debut in the 2014/2015 winter season and remain open throughout the entire period from December to April. The halfpipe, now extended by 60 meters to 200 meters, is of Olympic standard, and with a height of 6.90 meters, is unique worldwide. The halfpipe is situated in the No Name snowpark and thus directly in the heart of the ski resort. The grand opening party will take place on 20 December 2014 and the halfpipe will be open to professional athletes as well as all guests of the ski resort. Mark your calendars, this is gonna be huge!

LAAX is also constantly working on improving its mountain infrastructure, so that freestylers can have even more fun. With the chairlifts that opened last year – one designed by Porsche Design Studios − ski and snowboard fans can reach the mountain even faster and more comfortably than before. And that's a plus.

Last season saw LAAX blazing a trail with the unveiling of a new pro kicker line in the Curnius snow park enabling freestylers  going really big. Those who want to warm up a bit before hitting the big senders can check out Medium kicker lines just waiting to be conquered in the Ils Plauns snow park. A mini kicker lines have been added to the beginners' park and there is even a minipipe next to the huge superpipe in No Name Park.

As an official Swiss-Ski freestyle training support station for the past Winter Olympics in Sochi, LAAX has been a magnet for many professional riders. The world's elite will come back again in January 2015: The 16th Burton European Open will take place between January 29th - February 1st, where over 300 snowboarders from all over the world show what can be done in a brand new superpipe and innovative slopestyle course up on Crap Sogn Gion mountain. The 2015 BEO will also have a fun Hawaiian theme so spectators and competitors can expect even more good times at the four-day event. So stay tuned with us for more!

LAAX is also known for its endless backcountry possibilities

There is a great deal for freestylers and also for families to discover at LAAX: a wide range of freestyle options, a unique ski school for kids, ski and snowboard lessons for all ability levels to name a few. If that wouldn't be enough freestyle for you, why not try out the first freestyle indoor hall in Europe – the Freestyle Academy, right by the Laax valley station. Alongside the trampoline, skatepark and Snowflex Rail Slope, the heart of the hall is the Big Air, with kickers at various heights. You won't be bored in LAAX, guaranteed.
