Tarifa: Not Only Kitesurfers' Paradise

Tarifa, the furthest southerly point of Europe not only offers one of the best wind conditions for kitesurfing but also spectacular diving. What makes the diving so interesting here is that the Atlantic and Mediterranean ocean come together - offering divers the chance to dive in the ocean and in the sea all in the same day. And what can be found underneath the surface of its waters is breathtaking. You'll witness everything from the shimmer of schools of tiny silver fish, stone walls to shipwrecks. Let yourself immerse to the seas of the South of Spain.

The sleepy little town, located in the province of Cádiz, Andalusia, rests on the southwest Iberian Peninsula, close to where Spain and Africa almost touch.  On a clear day, you'll see the African continent from its shores . Two of the more popular underwater destinations are La Isla de Las Palomas, an island that serves as a military base above the surface and home to numerous bream and moray that can carry divers along sheer underwater cliffs at sport-diving depths.

There are more than 10 dives to choose from around Tarifa with abundant selection of marine life; moray eels, conger eels, octopus, scorpion fish, sun fish, nudibranchis, wrasses, rays, fork beard, bream, sea perch, gorgonian, anemones and more. Most of the days are sunny but when the conditions aren't good, there is a lot of ancient shipwrecks that are rich with marine life that are worth to explore.

As always, residents know their home turf like no other and if you want to get most of your dive trip, getting in touch with some of the local dive centers is always a wise choice. Close to the old town, just in the port of Tarifa, YellowSub, a PADI dive center offers anything you need - compressor and storage room, facilities for cleaning up the equipment and showering,  a shop with products for sale or equipment to rent. Being located right in the harbor, you can get straight from the shop to one of YellowSub's boats and most of the dive sites are reached easily with 5 minutes boat trip. It can't be any easier.

The visibility is always good, the water temperature between 15 and 20 degrees be it summer or winter. The dive center is open all year round and apart from entry courses the crew offers sidemount and Tec diving courses as well. If you want to find out more, visit their website or get in touch at info@yellowsubtarifa.com or call (0034) 956 680 680.
