Surfing Alaia - A New Surf Revolution?

Surfing is by no means easy comparing to snowboarding. But what about surfing on a snowboard? Fin free boards are fun but alaias is another level. Although we don't see alaias around too often, Tom Wegener started the alaia revolution already in 2005 and was named Shaper of the Year in 2009. He is probably the most innovative shaper in the world carrying the whole wood board movement. Do you want to know how those alaias ride? Check it out.

Fred Compagnon is a Hossegor surfer who has been passionate about stand up paddle and got recently hooked up by alaias. The result? When the waves get huge he paddles out with both boards and does step-offs from the SUP onto the alaia. It's weird, it's wonderful, it's very, very gnarly. Check out the tubes he gets on a finless plank of wood that's about a quarter inch thick! Fred is an amazing waterman doing some unbelievable things in the waves so keep him on your radar.
