Petra Povolna – Team Czech

Petra has belonged to the Czech elite for a couple of years already. From Open Europeans she has got two medals from team competitions helping the team in the years of 2011 and 2013 to their bronze medals. She first skied on the “A” team in 2006 in Greece. Last year she competed for the first time at the World Championships that was held in Chile.

She made the elite 12-women finals last year at the Europeans in Greece scoring exactly 6000 points. Thereafter Petra came 8th in the finals. Towards the end of the season she tried to break the Czech record of Martina Zlatohlavkova, which in the end was not surpassed. Despite this fact the performance of 7210 points is very promising for this year.

Petra will surely want to present herself with top-class performances this year and above all to be a pillar of the Czech team at the first ever Europeans held at home in the Czech Republic in Melice. After an knee injury she will try to enhance her performance levels in jumps too and that is why we can be looking forward to a promising result in the prestigious Overall event.

Do you rate the participation at the first ever Open Europeans in your homeland as a hallmark of this season?
I certainly do. And I am always happy when I can take part in this elite event along with our most successful boys who train in America.

Are your friends and classmates coming to support you?
It seems they will come. From our home village Drisy we already planned to send a coach to Melice. J

How was your Winter preparation?
A bit chaotic due to the fact that I had the last tournament in December and in January I started working in a new job. There was not as much time as usually, so mainly fitness club, working out at home and now a MTB in Spring.

When did you start skiing in this season?
Approximately in the middle of June, which is later than every year, but school and work assignments prevented me from jumping in earlier.

Your knee that was operated is now all right?
Thanks to rehab and workout I almost do not have any more medical issues with my knee.

What are your performance goals for this season?
My goals are connected above all to jumps. Last season I tended to neglect jumps and the results followed suit. This year I would like to restore my reputation. And I surely do have plenty of new tricks that I would like to squeeze into my program.

How do you see the chances of the Czech team?
Given the fact that the tournament´s venue is home and the Czech team can max out on the number of participants and be complete, the chances are high.

How do you evaluate your chances at the Europeans?
I do not like being a step too far down the road. First my focal points will be the team qualification battle in the form of tournaments and catching up on my tricks form from last year, at any rate, finals in tricks, the same as last year, would not be anything I would complain about.

What do you want us to tell the fans, spectators and the public who are considering coming to the Championship?
Please tell them to come to support the Czech team. It will certainly be worth it!
