The former secret spot Kappl has developed into one of the most popular freeride destinations in the scene in recent years, where the starting signal for the 6 season stops will also be given this year. After the preparations in the pre-season, the riders are champing at the bit so that they can finally compete again and collect their first points. Not only do the faces in Kappl/Paznaun offer breathtaking opportunities, the climb to the start alone is not for the faint of heart.
From 19 - 21.01.2024 it's "3 - 2 - 1 - Drop!" again and the freeride contest season is open. A new face will be used for the 2* competition this year. Directly from the exit of the Alblittkopfbahn lift along the so-called "Autobahn", the riders head towards the start gate of the "Stoamandl" face, which offers no less opportunities for creative line choices. In this varied terrain, the riders have to prove their technique once again in order to convince the judges.
Enthusiastic freeride fans can follow the runs in the public viewing area to experience this phenomenal action live on site. In addition, the competition will be delivered directly to the living room of all viewers at home via the usual high-quality live streams on www.openfaces.com - with commentary from former and/or still active pros.
Directly after the 2* contests, the Freeride Junior World Championships will follow from January 20th to 26th, 2024, which will once again be held on the face of the Quellspitze. Young athletes from all over the world compete in the Snowboard Women/Men and Ski Women/Men categories. Last year already showed how high the level of the freeride youth already is and gives hope for even more breathtaking tricks. Who will take the places on the top podium this year and be crowned world champion? Who will convince the judges with their technique, creativity and fluid runs?
It's definitely worth being there and cheering on the riders right there in hopefully fair conditions.
