Port Elizabeth is situated in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa, about 750 km east of Cape Town. The city, often shortened to PE stretches for 16 km along Algoa Bay, and is one of the major Scuba Diving destinations in South Africa. At Pro Dive they offer equipment rental and airfills on site. Here we put just a few samples of what spots you can visit.

Knysna Lagoon - Wreck of Paquita

The Wreck of the Paquita was a 460 ton German ship that ran ashore in 1903. She lies in the mouth of the Knysna Lagoon making for an unusual dive. The anchors are still visible and the iron plates are alive with soft corals & teaming with fishlife including white steenbras, black tail and large mussel cracker are sometime seen. Due to location of the wreck it is important to plan the dive at the correct time taking the tides into consideration. High tide usually has the best diving conditions.

St. Croix Island and Brenton Island

Stunning marine reserve characterized by caves, drop-offs, walls and gullies overgrown by soft corals, sponges and fans. A multitude of fish inhabit the waters, together with Jackass Penguins which feed vigorously on them. St. Croix is surrounded by two smaller islands, spectacularly beautiful which makes the trip to the area worthwhile. The island itself is home to the jackass penguin and many other bird species. One of the neighbouring islands is the Brenton Island, situated 800m from St. Croix. It is made up of gullies, caves, drop offs and walls, overgrown by soft corals, sponges and fans and sightings of Ragged Tooth sharks are common. The boat trip to the islands is often interrupted by sightings of whales and dolphins.

Brenton Wreck

The Brenton Wreck appears to be a fishing trawler of some kind and is lying upright embedded in fine sand. Below the stern the prop is sticking out, with one of the blades over a meter in lenth. If you slowly descend on to the broken up deck, you will find huge schools of juvenile cob and other fish, the reason why this is a popular fishing site. Due to its depth and location it is advised that this dive is not done without a torch.
