Diving in Cabbage - Indoor diving center Aufkirchen

When it was the first time when I’ve heart about diving in the former sauerkraut factory I remembered the smell of merkaptane (mining compound which is well known for its characteristical smell of spoilt cabbage). But I’ve tried to forget the first feelings and went for another diving adventure accompanied by several friends to Aufkirchen, a small village close to the München airport.

And here it was! A courageous and outrageous project to build up an indoor dive base within the former factory with a minimum of adjustment!

The architect grasped the idea of adaptation of the acidification tanks pretty smartly! He connected the 8 tanks by underwater tunnels and enlightened it by windows which allow customers to see clearly into the basins. There is an underneath dive base rear like dive-equipment rental, compressor, changing room, showers, equipment clearing room etc. and of course the most important part of the centre – a bar!

The centre is physically connected with a hotel and a restaurant by underneath tunnel. Once upon a time the connection was not just physical but even economical. It was changed and nowadays dive base and the hotel are independent. As I’m personally interested in the swimming-pool and aqua-parks‘business, I’ve asked a few questions to the owner of the dive base. Mr. Rene Pomsel revealed the secret of a-seems-to-be-an economic miracle. There are solar panels on the roof of the centre. Those can easily produce energy to fed up the whole centre and even a bit more.

There was the only problem of the whole complex in the times when we’ve started to come there ( 15 years ago) . The transport of an equipment was really horrible these days! Nowadays - after a building up of a new entry - it is much better.

The centre is opened Tu-Fr 12:00 to 22:00, Sa 9:00 to 21:00, and Su and fests 9:00 to 19:00. It is possible to find current prices and conditions of the entry and rental at http://indoor-tauchen.de/. The centre offers pretty interesting discounts for instructors and diving schools.

There is a great advantage in using this centre. You can involve either theory or practise in confined water (two plates in 1,2 metres of depth for the beginning of the courses) or exercises in „open“ water (ordinary depth is something about 5 metres).

There was an offer of combo of 2-days diving and 1-night accommodation package in the times of hotel and diving centre connection for a nice price. These days, it is possible to use a wide offer of accommodation in the surroundings. For an “internal saturation” we’ve learned to use a marvellous restaurant Asian Pearl.

You can enjoy the wealth of the open „all you can eat“offer of an Asian buffet for EUR 7,20 during the working day. Or you can try the combination of Chinese and Mongolian cuisine in the evening for EUR 15. You can find more about that restaurant at www.asienperle-erding.de

Indoor diving centre is pretty fine either for diving training or for the refreshment of your diving experiences. If you travel with a family, there is a nice chance for them to relax and entertain themselves in the largest European aqua-park in the neighbourhoods – in Erding.
