Diving Zingara Wreck, Sosua, Dominican Republic

Sosua is one of the best and most versatile water sports towns of the northern coast of the Dominican Republic. It is a fine starting point for diving expeditions to the surrounding dive sites. Sosua and the North Coast have a lot to offer. Divers of all levels can enjoy shallow reefs, shipwrecks, freshwater cave diving, deep water diving and possible encounters with humpback whales and other large creatures.

One of the most popular diving sites in the area is a shipwreck called Zingara. Zingara is a 30 meter (100 feet) long freighter that was sunk on purpose for diving by a dive shop owner named Hans in 1992. A 15 minute boat ride east from Sosua, Zingara sits in the depth of 35 meters (117 feet). Expect medium current and very good visibility of over 15 meters in her location.  As it sits in open ocean its affected a little by the currents and harsh winter swells but even so it has an abundance of marine life including a few that call this home like a big green moray and big great barracuda. Since it is a deep dive it is advised to do this as a multi-level dive going from the wreck to the reef that spreads south of the wreck, making a fine 40 to 50 minute dive. Adrex.com recommends services of a traditional DR´s divers base Aqua Adventures.
