Island of Vis - Sheer Heaven in the Adriatic Sea

Komiza, a Croatian beautiful fishing village lying on southwestern side of the island of Vis, surrounded by the Adriatic Sea is considered among the most beautiful Adriatic treasures. The island offers unspoiled, uncrowned and undisturbed nature - mainly because the island was forbidden for foreign divers until 1993. Beautiful sandy beaches, the worldwide known Blue Cave, a great number of diving spots, locals' hospitality; that and more awaits you in Komiza, one of the prime Croatian diving location.

The first and one of the few diving centers on the island is ISSA Diving Center. Established in 1996, the center offers all types of diving services: TDI and SDI program courses and diving trips, wreck and cave diving, wall diving, night diving, completely supported technical diving, all diving gases and gas mixtures (air, oxygen, Nitrox and Trimix).

Each year the diving season at ISSA Diving Center starts on 1 April and ends on 1 December. Outside the diving season, diving depends on the interest of clients and can be arranged accordingly. The entire Island is relatively small with an area of 90.26 square kilometers (34.85 square miles) and therefore you don't have to travel far to the next spot. One of the well-known dives is without doubt the Blue Cave located on the steep shores of Biševo Island situated just five kilometers southwest of the Island of Vis.

the shores are also full of beautiful reefs

The Blue Cave

The cave was formed by the wave action of the sea, as sea water eroded the limestone rock of which the whole island of Biševo is composed. The cave itself is 24 meters long, 10-12 meters deep and up to 15 meters high, while the entrance to it measures 1.5 meters high and 2.5 meters wide.

Depending on the season, the ideal moment to visit the cave is between 11 a.m. and 12 noon. At this time of day the sunlight reflects through the water coming from the white floor of the cave and bathes the grotto in aquamarine light, while objects in the water appear to be silver.

Shipwrecks

Croatia's eventful past resulted in many ships hitting the bottom instead of reaching happily their destination and therefore there's quite a lot of shipwrecks in whole Croatia. The shores of the Island of Vis are no exceptions; you can explore many shipwrecks such as "Brioni", quite known passenger-cargo steamship sunk during storm in 1930, lying at a depth of 45-65 meters or one of the most interesting wreck along the coast, the wreck of the Greek cargo ship "Vassilios T" at the depth of 20 to 55 meters.

The center also offers accommodation nearby, equipment rental and an MPS mixer is available for preparing Nitrox as well as Trimix mixtures.
