Sidu Bridge BASE Jump - Freefall from the World´s Highest Bridge

Sidu Bridge is currently the highest bridge in the World (December 2013). It is 1627 feet (496m) tall and it is often mentioned as the only bridge that enables BASE jumpers to reach terminal velocity during their freefall. The bridge connects Shanghai on the Pacific coast with Chongqing and Chengdu in the west. Sidu River Bridge (Siduhe Bridge) is a suspension bridge crossing the valley of the Sidu River (which is also a crude translation of its name) located near Yesanguan in the Hubei Province of China.

The bridge is a part of the Huyu Highway (G50), one of the most important Chinese roads on the route between Shanghai and Chongqing. It bridges several mountains and hills that separate the Sichuan Basin from the lowlands of eastern Hubei. It was opened to the public on November 15, 2009. There were just a few BASE jumping teams performing in the area.

The easiest international transport way to get to the area is through the airports of either Chongqing or Wuhan. Both cities are operated by several American and European airlines. We´d prefer travelling via Wuhan as it is a little closer than Chongqing. Expect 6 hour drive (550km) from Chongqing while just a bit over 5 hours (400 km) from Wuhan. The road is obvious – G50 – the highway of the highest bridge in the world!
