Adam Ondra climbs the third 9b+ in Sloup, Czech Republic

The third 9b + has been completed by Adam Ondra. The Czech Republic has become the third state of the world where you can find such a difficult ascent. After the Norwegian 9b + titled "Change" and the Spanish "La Dura Dura", the most difficult routes map of the world has grown by a short but extremely challenging project "Vasil Vasil", a limestone crag in Sloup near Brno, Czech Republic´s second largest city. Adam struggled for more than two years until Wednesday, December 4, 2013, when he finally managed to climb over it.

During somewhat a cloudy and cold Wednesday, the Brno based climber Adam Ondra succeeded in his home area of the Moravian Karst with the first climb of difficulty 12 by UIAA classification. This is probably for the first time the UIAA uses the difficulty numbers of such a scale.

The first UIAA 12 classification

Difficulty 12 UIAA corresponds to 9b + by the French scale, which is now more commonly used. The "Vasil Vasil“ is thus one of the few hardest sport routes in the world, like La Dura Dura and The Change. Adam is continuing its tradition of shifting boundaries of rock climbing difficulties around the globe. In 2007, he climbed his first route of difficulty 11 (Fr. classification 9a) in a nearby Holstejn, and is now the world's first in "twelve".
