The vast majority of ACS's summer and winter programs take place in Acadia National Park and in Camden. Being their home turf, the ACS staff know the place like no other. Acadia National Park, located just down the road from ACS's office is highly regarded for its impeccable granite among climbers. Although there are certainly bigger cliffs to climb in many other areas of the country, none can match the singularly unique beauty of Acadia’s cliffs. From the granite slabs of the South Bubble overlooking Jordan Pond, the idyllic seaside location of Otter Cliffs, or the longer climbs found on the Precipice, Acadia offers a truly diverse range of climbing terrain.

Camden on the other hand, boasts an amazing selection of rock climbing, ice climbing and mountaineering opportunities.  With less crowds than Acadia and stunning views of Penobscot Bay and Megunticook Lake, the low-traffic cliffs in the Camden Hills are perfect for individuals, groups, families, and also kids.

Such diversity of those two places allows you to choose a climbing site best suited to your needs. Whether you have never climbed before or are experienced climber looking to hone your skills on some local rock or ice, the ACS offers several courses designed to everybody's needs. Speaking of ice climbing, the winter potential in Acadia is just endless. From amazing ice climbing venues, hundreds of miles of secluded and beautiful trails to steep and snowy mountains, there are so many options to choose from.

To find out more about this amazing place, Grant Simmons, one of the ACS's instructors released a digital version of his printed climbing guide book on Acadia that will hit the shelfs at the beginning of next summer. In this modern, beautiful, and informative book that will hopefully not just get people around the crags, but also get them psyched as they plan their day, Grant adds his own slice to the unique and rich climbing history of Acadia.
