Mount Pomiu towers over the Changping Valley, directly opposite to another well known Changping Valley´s top, Mount Siguniang (which you will read about on Adrex.com soon).  Mount Pomiu (also Shenshan) is said to be one of the most dangerous mountains not just because of its 80% steep slopes at the height of over 5000 meters, but also due to the harsh and fast changing weather conditions which occur around its peak. The mountain itself is accessible from the valley bottom from the eastern side located at 3700 meters or by the path beginning at Penjingtan Ford (3450 m) around the Pomiu Lakes (4500m) from its western side.

To start climbing Mt. Pomiu you have to obtain a permission of Chinese Mountaineering Association. CMA is China's only national organization (since 1958) for mountaineering, which has become a member of the International Mountaineering and Climbing Federation (UIAA) since 1985. Its address is No.10, Zuoanmen Dajie, Chongwen District, Beijing, China. Contacts: Tel. 0086-10-67102787 , Web:  http://cmasports.sport.org.cn

How to get there

The main city for visiting the mountain is the Sichuan province´s capital Chengdu and its airport. You then follow the north-western highway Chengguan Expressway (expect toll at Duwen bridge) until its end and take Provincial Road Nr. 303 at Yingxiuzhen. To this point it is 100 km, but be prepared for another 100 km by winding mountain road 303 till reaching the Rilong. The main base for entering the valleys around Mt. Pomiu is a small town of Rilong, which is situated at roughly 3160 meters above sea level. Find the place on the map of Adrex.com Locations...
