Climbing Argentine Volcanos - Over the 6000 m Peaks with Pablo Zelaya Huerta

Stretching for more than 4300 miles in length, the Andes Mountain Range claims the longest in the world. There are actually 102 peaks exceeding 6000 m in the Andes. Although split among 4 countries (Argentina, Bolivia, Chile and Peru), it is Argentina that holds most of them. We are going to skip the traditional and the largest Argentine mountaineering city of Mendoza and get into a smaller, but probably a warmer and more hospitable climbing town. It well serves as a starting point of numerous expeditions leading to the eastern Andean summits. It is the city of Tucuman (San Miguel de Tucumán) we´d like to invite you to. And we´ve found a great guide Pablo, who is ready to take you up the Argentine marvellous volcanoes.

Pablo Zelaya Huerta

Pablo Zelaya Huerta is one of the most experienced Andean mountain guides operating in the area of northwestern Argentina. Pablo was born in 1979 in Tucuman, which is the smallest province of Argentina. His passion for the mountains and outdoors have sparked thanks mostly to its country rich biodiversity in the area of medium mountain ranges full of unique views west of Tucuman and highlighting some 6000 meters peaks of Andes. From the beginning of his guide career, which was in 1994 , he was linked with adventure activities such as outdoors, mountain biking, trekking, hiking, canyoning and climbing. He joined expeditions in Tucuman and in other parts of the country, Patagonia form example.

During the last 18 years Pablo has been working to explore grounds, set new records and move various geographical peaks, accompanied by self-designed maps, to confirm his knowledge gained for both national and international trainings. He himself has been his only company in this whole journey that includes more than 400 passages in mountains, surveys and solo climbs. The challenge to overcome loneliness was presented for the first time when he was 15 and he went alone to the mountains. Both his family and his friends thought he was crazy. However, his love of the mountains was stronger. His projects are motivated by mountaineering sport, always driven by the desire to know and explore more destinations and different cultures. Without these rules , it would be impossible to continue still discovering this area. As Pablo´s personal motto goes: „It does not matter if you finished the summit or not . It is simply important to distinguish the way in which you lived and that helps to make us better people.“
