The amount of climbing in many areas around Colorado can seem a bit overwhelming - a lifetime of climbing available and many routes to choose from. Although the Colorado Mountain School guides at various locations across the United States and internationally, with their home base in Boulder and Estes Park, the Front Range and Rocky Mountain National Park are the main areas they guide in. To ease your search in this area, they can provide you with numerous classic routes as well as challenging ones.

Worried you do not have the necessary skills to face the challenge? In general, Colorado has numerous classic routes from 5.4 to 5.10c that are not that hard to climb. Whether you are a novice who has never climbed before or a seasoned alpinist looking to expand their skill set, CMS guides can work with you to create a custom outing in the incredible spaces that are basically their backyard.
5.4: Standard East Face – Third Flatiron, Flatirons
Quated as "probably the best beginner climb in the solar system" the Standard East Face Route up the Third Flatiron is an "ubber" classic and super-popular climb, especially for beginners and first time leaders. However, as is the customs, this climb has its place among the busiest multi-pitch routes in the world.

5.8+: Culp-Bossier – Hallett Peak, Rocky Mountain National Park
According to some, this is the best of the classic moderates in the park. The crux on this one is almost overhanging and 700 feet up. Awesome face climbing on a big face with a direct line.

5.10a: Casual Route – The Diamond, Rocky Mountain National Park
An incredible climb at high altitude on the most famous wall in Colorado. This is the easiest route on the Diamond, but that doesn't mean it's not world class. The route includes incredible climbing with awesome exposure and high alpine weather.

Whether you'd like to take up some of the courses the CMS provides, or you have your own objective in mind, give them a call or check their website. All of CMS's guides are American Mountain Guide Association trained and/or certified, and all their clients are welcomed to stay at their 16 bed lodge, located in Estate Park.
