European Most Anticipated Climbing Event of 2014 - San Vito, Italy

This year is going to be huge! Adrex.com brings you another multiple event dedicated to all extreme lovers; the San Vito Climbing Festival located in Sicily, Italia, held between 15 - 18 May. The fourth edition of the popular festival has broaden its horizon this year; not just superb climbing in the most enchanting area Sicily has to offer but a Trail Running, Mountain Biking and Kayaking competitions have been added to the list. Athletes will compete on crags, trails and waves to test themselves on Sicilian ground. What a festival would it be without an entertainment; the festival will host film venues, featuring mountain and adventure movies. Every year, this international sport and outdoor competition gathers hundreds of climbers, runners, bikers and kayakers from all over Europe. Adrex.com recommends this as a must see!

Apart from olives the San Vito area is full of, this small town in the Mediterranean See, particularly its eastern borders are surrounded by a small range of mountains including numerous caves that are drawn by adventures from all over the World. The beautiful crags of this area also attracts a lot of climbers every year. No wonder, the place is full of them (about 22 crags locations). Many sectors for any kind of climbing style, with various difficulty grades can be found here; from vertical, steep walls to ramparts and overhangs, this place has it all! Can't wait, can you?

Climbing events

The rock climbing is the heart of the sporting event. Hundreds of climbers will come to reach the goal of the 1000 bolted routes on the beautiful crags of San Vito Lo Capo, one of the most beautiful climbing site in the Mediterranean. This is definitely one of the main reason many climbers return to this event every year. But alongside the desire to climb , everyone is looking forward to be a part of the large community the event has gained throughout the years to make new contacts or chat with old friends. During the four days of the festival, several events will be dedicated to climbing. Apart from small competitions for kids, climbers can partake in three main climbing happenings:

DWS Contest - Classical Deep-water-soloing climbing on the cliffs by the sea. Adrex.com recommends the catamaran tour!

Climbing Meeting – Non-competitive climbing meeting to discover new crags.

Climbing Marathon – Climbing competition; a score race

Catamaran ride

How to get to San Vito?

By plane

Airport Falcone/Borsellino, Palermo – Punta Raisi, 90 Km; www.gesap.it
Airport Vincenzo Florio, Trapani – Birgi, 65 Km; www.airgest.com

By ferry

Ferries are available from Genoa, Rome, Civitavecchia, Naples. The closest ports are Palermo (120 km) or
Trapani (45 km). From there you can take a bus or rent a car. Information about buses can be found here:

By car

From Palermo take motorway A29 and exit after 45 Km at the "Castellammare del Golfo", then take the national road SS187 to San Vito Lo Capo.
