The history of world´s Ice Climbing Competitions held in France is not that much rich.

It started during the winter of 1995 in Courchevel, the place considered the first major international event of European ice climbing. Since 2000, the "World Cup" circuit has been on with constantly rising number of participants both in a male ane female categories. In 2010, there were already more than 200 male and female competitors. The Cup began including stages worldwide. One event that took place in France was in Chamonix in 2001. Since that day, few projects have been undertaken in France to drive this discipline. But in 2010, the discipline reborn with the organization of Championnat de France in 2012 and a stage of World Cup in Champagny-en-Vanoise. Building on the success of these two events this winter will be a new stage of the World Cup on the magnificent site of Champagny-en-Vanoise.
