Ice Night Climbing - Illuminated Cliff to Promote Climbing in Korea

At the beginning of 2015, a special project and first event of its kind supported by Mammut was held in Korea, the Ice Climbing Night. The local branch of the Swiss outdoor brand put together a unique event, similar to the one from 2013 when a team of fearless Mammut ice climbers headed off for Norway to set the professional athletes against an ice cliff, using flares and spotlights. The project produced unique photos, the likes of which the world has never seen before. In similar manner, LED lights were installed on a 100 meter high cliff in Wonju, Gangwon Province, Korea this January, transmitting a range of colors.

The event was a part of  the "Absolute Alpine Project", including for example Mammut's Matterhorn 150th anniversary. Apart from Norway and other countries, the event was the first of its kind in Korea and is hoped to attract many people to start taking interest in mountain-related outdoor activities through similar events, where the beauty of nature meets artificial production to highlight the value of mountaineers. Although the public was not invited to the event due to the remote location, upcoming events may be open to spectators. Let's see what the future holds for us.
