International Climbers’ Meet Invites Climbers to Share Passion

The seventh annual American Alpine Club’s International Climbers’ Meet will be convening in Yosemite Valley Oct 6th to Oct 12th. The goal of these meets is to foster good will and cultural understanding through our shared passion of climbing by hosting a diverse group of climbing abilities from a multitude of countries. Countries represented in the meet this year are Great Britain, Norway, Canada, Germany, South Africa, Denmark, Brazil, Sweden, Philippines, Mexico, and Nepal. American Alpine Club members from all parts of the USA will also be participating.

Last year's meet was an amazing adventure. Yosemite Park closed one week before the meet started. 50 participants traveled to the Eastern Sierra where they climbed, camped, watched movies on the side of a van, and bonded over the fact that no matter what happens, climbers will still climb. Although the American Alpine Club members do not anticipate closure of Yosemite Vally, according to their own words, "the show will go on no matter the circumstances."

The event is fully catered by Sierra Gourmet Catering. Other events taking place for the group are a presentation of the International’s home climbing area and off width and first aid clinics. Hans Florine will present his slide show on speed climbing and will do clinic on efficient anchor building. There will be one day of stewardship trail building for Yosemite National Park.
