From 3 to 11 May, 2014, the Mount Elbrus region for the sixth time will be the host of the Red Fox Elbrus Race sport festival. More than 300 alpinists will ascend the highest Europe point (5642 m).
Elbrus, or Mingi-Tau – the highest Europe peak (5642 m). The first ascent was committed by a group, led by General George Emmanuel (1829), four people conquered the East Summit (5621 m). By its origin Elbrus is stratovolcano, the eruptions had occurred more than 45 thousand years ago.

Skyrunning – is new modern sport, altitude running at a height of not less than one kilometer high. As a separate sport was isolated in Italy, in the mid 90-s of XX century. Since 2008 skyrunning and its central Russian event – Red Fox Elbrus Race Festival - presented at the International Skyrunning Federation. Since 2010 the race and "Vertical kilometer" competition (vertical speed race with a dial of 1 km height) is a part of ISF World Cup.

Mount Elbrus Race history
First time Elbrus became the training playground during preparation for the legendary Soviet team expedition to Everest (in 1982 Russian team went to the top by the new route). Subsequently, in the late '80s, races have been held more or less regularly, on the initiative of the "Everest-82" team member Vladimir Balyberdin.
Since 2005 the event became annual (the backbone of competitors also constituted of alpinists). That root coincides with the current - athletes overcome the distance from the "Bochki" climbing camp (3800 m) to the West Summit (5642 m). And in 2008 the Red Fox Elbrus Race Festival was born.
Although in recent years the victory palm was pick out from alpinists by other sports representatives (cross-country skiing, skyrunning), competition coordination is carried out by climbers.
