North Carolina - Home of the Best Rock Climbing in the South

Fox Mountain Guides was started by the first AMGA Certified Rock Guide in the Southeast and has now become the region's largest Climbing School, one of the largest on the East Coast. FMG gained Accreditation by the American Mountain Guides Association in 2005 and is still the only Guide Service to have gained this high standard in the region. Besides various climbing skills instructional courses and international expeditions, they offer guided day trips throughout the Southeast including North Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama, Kentucky, and Georgia.

Looking Glass

Linville Gorge feels like steppinng in another world

No wonder Adam chose North Carolina to be FMG's backyard. No other southern state has the variety or sheer volume hosted here. From the multi-pitch quartzite of Linville Gorge, Looking Glass,  a majestic granite dome with spectacular views, to Cashiers Valley, home to the tallest granite face on the east coast offering many stellar multi-pitch climbs up to almost 1000 ft.

Laurel Knob - the tallest rock face on the east coast

Chimney Rock - one of North Carolina's most recognizable landmarks

Apart from North Caroline guided climbs, FMG guide also in famous Red River Gorge. With its central location in Kentucky and its huge volume of routes, this place is one  of the finest sport climbing venues in the world. Spread out through a wide expanse of national forest land and privately-owned acreage, the Red’s sandstone cliffs offer a lifetime of climbing opportunities at all levels. Though it’s best known as a sport destination, the traditional "trad" climbing opportunities are endless here.

Those seeking some ice adventure, the White Mountains of New Hampshire and it's sentinel peak, Mt. Washington offer some of the country's best ice climbing. FMG heads north and conducts several weeks of courses in this ice climbing Mecca. You will begin on easier terrain and advance to difficult classics like Dracula, moderate and one of the most popular climbs at Frankenstein or Cathedral Ledge's legendary route Repentence, an aesthetic and thrilling line with a satisfying combination of ice and rock.
