The 2014 IFSC World Cup Crowned its Champions

The 2014 IFSC World Cup Asian Tour finished up with its penultimate competition of the season this past weekend in Inzai, Japan. Although the Lead season is not yet over, with the last World Cup to take place in Kranj, Slovenia, this November 15-16, Jain Kim and Jakob Schubert have already secured the overall victory in the rankings!

As of the Inzai World Cup this past weekend, Kim and Schubert lead by so much that even if they have their worst result in Kranj and the climbers currently ranked second win the competition, they will still come out on top of the overall ranking after subtraction of said climber's worst result.

Kim was the only woman to top out on the final route in Inzai, thus fulfilling the  goals of the route setters, especially after the women’s route from Wujiang, which proved exceptionally difficult  and sent many climbers to an early fall. Following Kim’s gold, Slovenia filled out the podium with Mina Markovic, gold medalist from Mokpo and Wujiang, whose score of 47+ secured her a silver medal. Finally, Maja Vidmar (SLO), the first climber to attempt the final route, was able to fend of the rest of the finalists and took bronze with a score of 44+. Although it's over for Kim, Markovic will yet to fight for the overall second place in Kranj.

Jakob Schubert had a great season. Lead finals in Mokpo saw Adam Ondra placing 9th in the semi-finals and thus missing the finals by just one place and one move.  In the men’s finals, Schubert started things off early with a top on the endurance-based final route and was able to fend off his competitors, remaining the only man to top the finals route and taking the gold medal. Although Schubert neither Ondra made it into the finals in Wujiang, Schubert's 4th place in Inzai secured him the overall crown despite Ondra's awesome win.

2014 Speed season finale

The grand finale of the exciting 2014 Speed season, during which we saw World Records broken three times, wraped up its rounds already a week earlier in Wujiang. The 2014 overall World Cup medals in Speed were awarded to the top-ranked climbers of the 2014 season, calculated with the scores from the World Cups only. Overall gold medals were given to Mariia Krasavina (RUS) and Danyl Boldyrev (UKR). Silver medalists were Iuliia Kaplina (RUS) and Libor Hroza (CZE), and bronze medalists were Anouck Jaubert (FRA) and Marcin Dzienski (POL).

Congrats!
