Aiko Gohler and Anneke Berten Claim the 2015 Four Cross World Championships

This past weekend, the 2015 UCI 4X World Championship took place under the eyes of five thousand spectators at Daolasa, Val di Sole, Italy. No wonder, after a long hiatus the 4X discipline returned to the UCI calendar and what a return it was. The Val di Sole track is the only 4X track in the world where a race can take place during the night, and it was a great spectacle - a good 600 meters of jumps, doubles, shoulder-to-shoulder action in corners and pure speed - that's what this event was all about.

"This is amazing: two riders from Germany on the podium, Benedikt Last and myself", says Aiko. "Benedikt was so fast, I didn't think I could manage to beat him, I still can't believe this is true. Last year at the Leogang World Championships in Austria I took the 'wooden medal', and now...now I wear the rainbow jersey... happy times!”

Cheered on by the crowds at every passage, Italian Giovanni Pozzoni unfortunately missed his spot in the Big Final

In the Women Category Anneke Berteen from the Netherlands claimed the victory. In her almost 20-year-long career (Downhill, BMX, 4X) she is now reaching a total of three rainbow jerseys. Her win is not a surprise: the 33-year-old athlete in great shape, also thanks to the enduro racing she has been doing during the last three seasons. And it pays off. Actually, Anneke is really good at this discipline as well; in 2015 she was crowned the Enduro European Champion. Lucia Oetjen from Switzerland secured herself the second place while the German Steffi Marth finished third.

“I am so happy! I had not been racing 4X this year yet, as I was so focused on Enduro," says Anneke. "Reaching the Finals has not been easy: the other ladies were so strong... But I love this track and I was so pumped by coming back here”.
