Bike Days: Nicholi Rogatkin Impress both the Crowd and the Judges with 720 Cork

It has been an extraordinarily successful weekend without any incidents for the organizers of the Bike Days held this past weekend. The seventh edition of the Bike Days held in Solothurn counted no less than 27’500 visitors. This gratifying new record may have come as a surprise but for some good reasons: Apart from the beautiful weather and a large number of new products at the bicycle expo, a whole series of innovations regarding the side events also had their intended effect. After all, the dirtjump contest had been upgraded to a Silver event within the FMB World Tour and the BMX flatland competition was the first contest of the BMX Flatland World Circuit.

Nicholi Rogatkin Wins MTB Dirtjump Contest

32 riders from 12 different countries lined up for this year’s MTB dirtjump contest. Ten of those made it through Saturday’s qualifications and to the finals. Newcomer Nicholi Rogatkin from the US was the clear favorite after the qualification, and he managed to win the contest with a very strong second run, beating last year’s winner Matt Jones (UK) and Szymon Godziek (POL). For Rogatkin this was his first participation in Solothurn, and he was enthusiastic about the bike festival. "I’ve spent three fantastic days here. The festival is an incredible lot of fun and it’s great to have so many truly interested people here," said the happy contest winner.

Viki Gomez Celebrates His Second Win in Solothurn

The BMX flatland contest marked the start of the BMX Flatland World Circuit, and ten riders showed flatland skills on the highest level to a spirited crowd. Spain’s Viki Gomez convinced both the crowd and the judges and managed to win the contest for the second time after having won in 2012 and having finished in second in 2014. Second place went to Japan’s Sasaki Moto and third place to Frenchman Matthias Dandois. Despite the great weather the indoor stands in Solothurn’s Rythalle were bursting and the spirited crowd was loud and supported its favorites with a lot of enthusiasm.
