Bryn Atkinson Takes Inaugural Pinnacle Bike Championship Title
Pinnacle Bike Championship took place over a custom-built course on the face of 4,000ft Mt. Tecumseh in Waterville Valley Resort, in the heart of White Mountain National Forest, New Hampshire. Riding by invitation only, the world’s 100 best riders were presented the chance to race directly against each other in groups of 10 - rather than the more traditional downhill format of racing against the clock – whilst taking in jumps and drops
Winner Atkinson said “It was great, I think the format of the racing was awesome, the calibre of riders was pretty high too and the speed of the track, I think this sort of format has the potential to be just awesome”, before continuing “I mean the World Cup courses, we don’t even go that fast… this is consistently fast the whole time. It was a good weekend, pretty stoked”
Two years in the planning, the Pinnacle Bike Championship has been devised as a means of opening up the visual access to one of the world’s most dangerous sports for greater spectator satisfaction, with 100% of the course raced over open slopes designed to push the limits of the riders’ abilities and equipment to the very limits.
Event Founder, Mark Rodgers, comments “The specially developed course ran superbly, the riders fought it out through tough qualifying rounds and produced an awesome final race. We’re delighted with the first year’s event and would like to thank the riders and race teams for taking part, the sponsors and, of course, the spectators who turned out to witness the first ever Pinnacle Bike Championship”
