Cape Epic 2015 - World´s Most Difficult MTB Race Is On

Swiss Christoph Sauser and his Czech buddy Jaroslav Kulhavy dominated the first stage of Absa Cape Epic MTB race of couples. Favored duo did so after the third place from Sunday's prologue (seized by Swiss riders Fabian Giger and Martin Gujan) in South Africa, which got them into a leading line. Challenging stage race takes place till Sunday, March 22nd, bikers will experience a total of 739 km (459 miles) out of which 16 000 meters of climbing.

4 teams that are favourites of the race are Team Novus OMX - Martin Gujan (SUI) and Fabian Giger (SUI), Team Bulls -  Karl Platt (GER) and Urs Huber (SUI), Team Investec-Songo-Specialized Christoph Sauser (SUI) and Jaroslav Kulhavy (CZE) and Topeak Ergon with Czech Kristian Hynek, defending last year´s victory in the toughest mountain bike race together with his new mate Alban Lakata from Austria. Topeak Ergon guys had to work together to repair the defect twice during the first stage but managed to stay in contact with leaders. "We picked up the loss, but further development is critical," remained calm a thirty-five Hynek. 

The Absa Cape Epic is the most televised mountain bike stage race in the world and the only eight-day mountain bike stage race classed as hors catégorie by the Union Cycliste Interacionale (UCI). This official UCI status makes it a highlight on the professional racer's calendar. The Absa Cape Epic also attracts aspiring amateur riders wanting to test themselves against the best. It is a full-service race, meaning that everything is taken care of from the start - all riders need to think about is riding.
