Schwalbe British 4X Series 2014 - Round 2, South Wales

This Sunday, May 4, sees round two of the 2014 Schwalbe British 4X Series taking place at Afan in South Wales. The Afan 4X Track designed by Phil Saxena's Architrail company is widely regarded by most riders to be one of Britain's top 4X tracks, with a massive rock section, corkscrew bridge and a pro line that has double jumps over 35 feet long! Lines will cater to beginners as well as elite riders, which make this track so good for everyone. Racing is always close, passing is frequent and races are never dull, thrilling until the finish line. The track really showcases 4X at its best and after a great start to the Series in Harthill 3 weeks ago, we can look forward to the round two.

Britain’s top riders will be there, battling it out to see who will take round 2 of the 7 round Series. Scott Beaumont began his 2014 season in a dominant style as he took the win at round 1. His winter training has clearly paid off as he looked faster than ever out on the track. Nathan Parsons was the strongest challenge at round 1, and after getting close to Boom Boom, we think the "Natedogg" will have been training hard in preparation for round 2. Duncan Ferris was on it at round 1 and will again be looking for another final in Afan. Duncan has been in charge of the track modifications at Afan recently, so he knows Afan track really well. Dave Richardson was possibly, to some people, a surprise package at Harthill, making the final and finishing 4th. The 2013 senior British 4X series champion made the move into the Elites for 2014 and his 4th place at round 1 showed that he means business against the Elites in 2014.

In addition to the huge elite field who raced at round one, there will be some other guys starting their 2014 campaigns at Afan. Lewis Lacey is back from a serious injury that sidelined him for 2013. And those who know him can make sure he will be fighting for the win. Isaac Mundy will also be in contention at a track that historically had treated him very well!

In the women category, numbers of participants continue to grow. Cara Murray will be the favorite after taking the win at round 1. Cara looked fast and consistent all day at Harthill and with her main 4X focus this year, she will be going after her second victory.  Tyde D’Souza had one of the standout performances at Harthill a few weeks ago. Promising young talent stunned many of the established riders by finishing second.  She also leaded the final for a short time at Harthill!  Without a doubt, she will be going for it again in Afan. Megan Wherry, Heather Kay and all the other women will be fighting to make the final and get their hands on valuable series points. There is a lot to look forward to, don't miss it!
