Taxco 2014 - One of the Most Epic Downhills in the Streets of Mexico

Since 1999, when the first City MTB downhill race in Lisbon was presented, urban races have spread all over the world getting more and more popular. This Fall, Oct 24-25 will see the best international as well as national MTB riders at the third edition of DownHill Taxco and final stage of the City Downhill World 2014 held in a beautiful town Taxco de Alarcón, Guerrero, Mexico. One of the world's best downhill and freeride riders have confirmed their attendance: Filip Polc, Marcelo Gutierrez, Michael Hannah or Tomas Slavik have all trained hard all season and it's going to be great to see them giving their bests on the gnarliest city downhill track.

Billions of people in the world ride bikes in cities, but when this event is in Taxco and the local kids see a pro rail a corner in front of their house at 40mph fly down the stairs and blast a second story wallride on their neighbor's house, everybody gets fired up. The unique course goes through a beautiful town and is full of steep stairs, alleys and spectacular jumps. Total of 40 riders were invited to come down to Taxco once again to put on an incredible show where each rider will whizz by Taxco's alleys and crazy crowd of more than 13.000 fans in two rounds from which only the best time counts. The 2 km long course changes every year so we are really stoked what surprises the organizers have prepared for riders this season. As always, rounding out the main race will be the 'Best Trick' contest taking place in a traditional alley where the biggest jumps have always been at. "Taxco is the best urban race I've ever ridden, the track is so much fun to ride and the fans are absolutely wild!,” Brendan Fairclough, 2012 race winner.

But there is more to it. For a lot of the international riders, this is a glimpse of the Mexico they've never seen or heard about. Getting rowdy on the streets with the locals is one thing, but much bigger issues and programs can be brought to light with the help of such format. Hopefully, this is going to take action anytime soon!
