Taxco Downhill, Not Rio - Top 3 Downhill Tracks in the World
Located 108 miles (173 km) southwest from Mexico City, the city of Taxco offers bikers almost incredibly variable and rough terrain. Being the host of world´s best riders for already 3rd time in 2012, Taxco always sets an amazing mix of biking ingredients. Lots of narrow streets, great sets of jumps, hair-raising slopes and huge encouraging crowds. No wonder its reputation sometimes goes as an „insane“ urban course that can be compared to only a few places in the world. Adrex.com places the site just next to a Chilean Valparaíso and Portuguese Lisbon. We strongly recommend to monitor the Downhill events worldwide so that you do not miss another opportunity to watch the race live in Taxco. So far it was in 2003, 2005 and 2012 that saw the great show here.
The city of Taxco, with its over 50,000 inhabitants, lies just 2 hour drive from Mexico City by 95D Chilpancingo-Cuernavaca Hwy. You can also take a luxury bus from Mexico City´s Southern bus terminal, known as Taxqueña, and travel for 3 hours to reach Taxco.
In the video bellow, the footage taken from a helmet camera, you can see race winner Brendan Fairclough's completely crazy descent through the narrow streets of Taxco. Taking part in the Taxco urban downhill, Fairclough races down steep stairs, on a muddy track, through suburban Mexican streets, squeezes through alleyways and jumps over makeshift ramps - all in just 3:17.48 minutes. Enjoy!
