The Dungeons Challenge Awaits a Massive Swell

The Dungeons Challenge, the second leg of The ASP Big Wave World Tour held in Hout Bay, South Africa has been awaiting a big storm that is traveling towards Cape Town. Event organizers are closely monitoring the area and hope in massive swell to hit the African shores any time soon. Over the years, swells of up to 47 feet (14.3 m) have been recorded here. Are we going to see more? Watch out.

With just under three weeks remaining the Southern Hemisphere window, which began on April 15 and runs until August 31, 2014 has completed one event so far, the Billabong Pico Alto in Peru, and has two remaining event options in Chile and South Africa. The Dungeons Challenge is a final stop of the Southern Hemisphere leg and everybody is impatiently waiting for organizers to issue a Green Alert. A team of experts track swell systems all over the world waiting for those that will produce waves in the 30-foot-and-larger range for one of the six world-class big wave venues.

“We are starting to see some storm activity that we are getting excited about. With only a couple of weeks left in the waiting period these are positive times and it would be great to finish the Southern Hemisphere leg with a bang.” -  BWWT Commissioner Peter Mel and one of the world’s most prominent big wave icons.

Well, if the forecasters prognosis will come true, we can await a big wave event at its finest.
